As part of our work in building up young adults to be prepared to enter the workforce with healthy decision making skills, accurate knowledge around substance misuse and suicide prevention, and mental health awareness, on June 5th & 9th NAMI NH ran a Suicide Prevention Training specifically for this age group (18-25). The first training session was an interactive, informative training day where 15 participants learned about suicide prevention and what they can do if they or a peer is having difficulties with their mental wellness or is considering suicide. On Day 2, 5 participants (pictured above) went on to practice how to take the material they learned in the first session and were trained as trainers to deliver it to other young adults in a peer-to-peer model. It is particularly effective for young adults in this age group to be empowered to conduct these trainings with peers their own age, as they can better relate to each other and the sometimes unique struggles of their generation. Congratulations to our 5 strong, powerful young adult suicide prevention trainers, ready now to conduct this training for their peer in NH!
Special thanks to NAMI NH for their outstanding program delivery and design, and to Families in Transition and the Currier Museum of Art for the use of their space for these important trainings! We so appreciate your partnership!
