📆December 21st is the first day of ☃️❄️Winter! Makin’ It Happen would like to gently remind you to take care of yourself during the coldest months of the year. While humans cannot hibernate, the Winter months are often ones spent indoors, avoiding the freezing temperatures 🥶, dark days 🌃, and snowy weather 🌨️. We encourage you to enjoy this cozy time by incorporating self-care into your daily routine.

Self-care looks different for everyone, but some ideas include keeping a gratitude journal 📘, taking a quick walk 🚶‍♀️, using light therapy 🌞, and staying hydrated 💧. We hope you find joy in the coming months by staying warm and cozy with those you love ❤️.

December is a month full of celebrations that include alcohol 🥂. Christmas Eve 🎄and New Year’s Eve 🎉 are among the most dangerous days of this celebratory month. We all have a role to play in the prevention of impaired driving.

If you are hosting a party, ensure your guests do not leave your party impaired. New Hampshire has a social host liability law that potentially holds party hosts liable for damages caused by intoxicated people leaving their parties behind the wheel. If you are hosting an event that involves alcohol, there are several steps you can take to ensure your guests do not drive impaired.

🆘If you or a loved one is struggling with a Substance use disorder, call 211 to access a Doorway near you. If you or a loved one are experiencing a mental health crisis, reach out to the New Hampshire Rapid Response Access Point, which can provide support. It is easy to get overwhelmed by the chaos of the holiday season. The invisible load that comes with all the extra events 🎄, celebration preparations 🍗, gift buying 🎁, and travel ✈️ can create a lot of stress in already busy lives.

While we don’t have a cure for the overwhelm, we encourage you to take the time to enjoy the small moments, whether you enjoy a cup of hot chocolate☕, take a brisk walk 👣, or do a five-minute meditation 🧘 . Remember it is ok to pause, breathe deeply, and reset.
