Collaboration, strengthening communities, and sharing resources … OH MY!  In May, Makin’ It Happen’s, Mary, Kay, and Ashley, had the opportunity to upholster the meaning of these three aspects. After our participation in Auburn Village School’s Project Safeguard and our proceeding social media coverage of the event, we received a request from the Population Health Team at Dartmouth Hitchcock to share and explain our presentation for future use!

Andrea Smith is the Senior Community Health Partnership Coordinator and Maggie Coleman is the Population Health Coordinator. Andrea is also the Substance Misuse Prevention Coordinator for the Upper Valley Regional Public Health Network and co-facilitates ALL Together, the region’s substance misuse and suicide prevention coalition. All Together has compiled two media campaigns to bring awareness to the ongoing issues vaping poses to the population. In addition to Dartmouth’s work with ALL Together, Maggie has focused on presenting their team’s Youth Vaping Education and Resources Toolkit. The toolkit includes evidence-based and evidence-informed tools for classroom prevention education, Alternative to Suspension (ATS) curriculum for schools, “Vaping 101” general knowledge resources, parent/guardian education materials, and more.

We are excited about the impact our youth-centered, Mean Girls themed vaping presentation will add to the Population Health Team’s initiatives. Our presentation encompassed detailed information that was designed to help youth to make the most informed decisions, while featuring a unique technique to help them to identify their “Why” for saying no to vaping.

As we continue to share and access resources, we are enthusiastic about this collaboration and the furthering of our shared mission to build awareness and resilience among our community, and especially in our youth!
