On January 5th, Makin’ It Happen partnered with the New Hampshire Theatre Project, the Manchester Police Department, and the Manchester Fire Department to present AFTERMATH: An Elephant in the Room Production at The Rex Theatre in Manchester.

AFTERMATH is one of six current offerings in NHTP’s flagship Elephant in the Room Series. The series uses play readings or films to explore difficult topics and encourages meaningful discussion through facilitated conversations with both a panel and the audience. AFTERMATH tells the story of a firefighter struggling with post-traumatic stress, how it affects him and his family, and his journey to heal. First responders from all over New Hampshire and their families were invited to attend, and we had an amazing turnout.

Audience members were able to interact with local police department comfort dogs, including Patch from Manchester, Gadget from Newmarket, and Rhea from Salem. Resources were available throughout the evening, and the post-performance discussion gave attendees space to reflect, ask questions, and share their experiences.

The response was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees and partners sharing feedback such as, “Aftermath was fantastic,” “It was a powerful evening,” and “My staff had wonderful things to say about the event.”

We extend a HUGE thank you to all of our sponsors that helped us make this happen: Amoskeag Health, Camp Resilience, Elliot Health System, Euda Health and Wellness, Humble Warrior Power Yoga, Integrated Health Alliance, Service Credit Union, Shift Counseling and Consulting, Southern New Hampshire Critical Incident Stress Management Team, and The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester.
