Makin’ It Happen is excited to be developing a new initiative designed to break down stigma and build resiliency among individuals working in direct service businesses throughout the greater Manchester region. Our pilot module, ‘Clip the Stigma,’ has been developed by our Resiliency Essentials team and focuses on providing training for hairstylists and barbers.
What is the vision for Clip the Stigma?
Kayt: Hairstylists see people from all walks of life. Clients feel comfortable with hairstylists and barbers, so they hear everything! Our vision is to prepare hairstylists and barbers with QPR training to properly equip them with the knowledge and language to respond effectively when they encounter a client experiencing a challenging time or a mental health crisis. In addition to QPR training, national, state, and local support options will be reviewed to ensure everyone knows how to access the appropriate level of support.
Jordan: Eventually, once we complete our pilot module and future trainings, we hope to expand this initiative throughout Greater Manchester, including tailored curricula to meet the needs of providers.
What is QPR Training?
Jordan: QPR stands for Question, Persuade, Refer. It is a mental health awareness training that utilizes three simple steps for someone to go through if they are facing someone going through a mental health crisis.
Why is training like QPR so important?
Kayt: QPR is an accessible, easily understandable training that saves lives!
Jordan: QPR Training is evidence-based and proven to help save lives and prevent suicide.
Where is Clip the Stigma?
Jordan: Clip the Stigma’s pilot will be taking place on August 6th at 6 PM in the Makin’ It Happen Training space, 77 Sundial Avenue Suite 102W, Manchester, NH 03103!
Who is involved? How can others get involved?
