On February 7, our partners at Friends Of Aine hosted a Youth Mental Health First Aid training lead by our Resiliency Essentials team members and trainers, Janelle and Kayt! Friends Of Aine focuses on providing peer support groups, resources, and assistance to grieving children and families. Their mission is to “help children and families grieving a death navigate their path to a hopeful future.”
Staff members and volunteers of Friends Of Aine and Makin’ It Happen learned the essentials of ensuring youth feel heard and supported in their mental health. Although there were numerous lessons learned, some key takeaways were how to accurately assess a situation for crisis, how to approach youth about their wellbeing and ask appropriate questions, and what steps to take in both a noncrisis and crisis situation.
We are so grateful to Friends Of Aine for their enthusiasm and passion displayed throughout the entirety of the day and for providing everyone with lunch! Janelle and Kayt expressed how exciting it was to train this group and we look forward to more trainings in the future like this!
