Makin it Happen, Connor’s Climb and Manchester Mental Health Present Program to Introduce Signs of Suicide to Spark Academy

Tracy and Ashley, members of the Makin' It Happen

Tracy and Ashley, members of the Makin' It Happen team, found themselves in Augusta, Maine, attending the 2024 Alcohol Misuse Prevention Conference, which aimed to tackle alcohol misuse among emerging adults. 💡 🛣️

During their time there, they unexpectedly crossed paths with Nigel, a former Youth Leadership Trainer, and Maura, a partner from NH Teen Institute.

The conference delved into crucial topics such as overcoming adultism in prevention efforts, the significance of addressing adult behavior modeling, the role of self-regulation in prevention strategies, and the impactful presentation titled "The Power of Youth" by Dover Youth2Youth and the Maine youth advocacy group. It proved to be an enriching day of learning and proactive measures in the realm of prevention throughout New England.

April is Stress Awareness Month and we are here with some strategies for you to be able to live your life as stress-free as possible:

💙Connect With Nature: Interaction with nature can be very healing in many ways and is a great way to refresh your mindset!
💙Practice Deep Breathing: Deep breathing invokes relaxation, and therefore, stress reduction. If you find yourself in a stressful situation, take a few seconds to practice breathing in and out slowly!
💙 Check In With Others: Connecting with others is an amazing way to reduce stress by relieving yourself from things that may worry you to spend time with the people you care about!
💙 Check In With Yourself: Checking in with yourself can be in the form of journaling, setting a time aside in the day for yourself, or anything helps you to be your best self! Being aware of triggering stressors and situations is important to not only enhancing your stress awareness, but techniques for managing it!

Remember, there is no single way to manage stress and often times it may take trial and error to figure out what works best for you!

Last week, team members from Makin' It Happen had the honor of attending the 2024 New Hampshire State Capitol Day! 💙💛 It was amazing to learn more about how advocacy impacts public health, especially on the forefront of suicide prevention. Last week, Makin’ It Happen attended the monthly Community Advisory Board (CAB) meeting hosted by the Manchester Police Department! 🤩 The topic this month provided important insight into the Emergency Management System from Manchester Fire Department’s Emergency Management Coordinator, Meghan Geoffrion!💙 The information also highlighted how it correlates and intersects with policing!
