Makin’ It Happen is taking the lead on Greater Manchester’s Anti-Stigma Initiative to confront and reduce stigma around substance use disorder and addiction through learning and connection opportunities.
Through the Anti-Stigma campaign, we offer two evidence-based trainings, Responding to Addiction and enCompass. These trainings are free and available to anyone who lives or works in the region. If you are interested in attending future trainings, please reach out to Janelle at [email protected] or subscribe to our monthly newsletter here.
In addition to live trainings, Makin’ It Happen is proud to partner with JCOIN and Addiction Policy Forum to offer free, self-paced, online webinars covering a range of substance use trainings. Participants just have to create a free account to access all of the courses! Webinars include:
- Understanding Overdose Risk and Medication Efficacy
- Reentry Best Practices for Individuals with Substance Use Disorders
- Addressing the Stigma Around Substance Use Disorders
- Fentanyl Facts and Overdose Risk
An important factor in reducing stigma is sharing the success of individuals with substance use disorder. We created My Recovery Gallery to highlight recovery in Manchester, a moveable art gallery that features portraits and stories of locals in recovery from substance use disorder. The gallery aims to break the stigma that people in recovery fit a stereotype, and shows that people of all ages, races, genders, and walks of life are in recovery – including your neighbors, colleagues, friends, and family.
Throughout 2026, the gallery will be popping up in community centers, small businesses, and public spaces across the region. Follow us on social media to see where the gallery will go next and join us in spreading hope through stories (@makinithappngm). Want to bring the gallery to your organization or event? Reach out to us at [email protected], and we’ll work with you to make it happen.
