Makin’ It Happen’s Impact in August 2024
Makin’ It Happen had an eventful week in August, marked by significant collaborations and presentations.
The Resiliency Essentials and Community Impact teams worked together to deliver a curated presentation at Southern New Hampshire University’s (SNHU) Chandler Center, a civic engagement hub for students. The Chandler Center approached Makin’ It Happen earlier in the summer, seeking an organization to present at their August Take 5 event. This five-day program is designed to help incoming students learn about their new community and engage with local nonprofit organizations. After several meetings with the Chandler Center leadership team, our members developed a presentation tailored to address mental health challenges faced by college students. The topics covered included common mental health issues, substance use disorders, disordered eating, healthy relationships, sexual health, suicide prevention, volunteer opportunities, and substance-free activities in the area. Our team was pleased to collaborate on a project with a different focus, engaging, educating, and empowering the next generation of students as they enter their next phase of education. We extend our thanks to the SNHU Chandler Center for this valuable opportunity and look forward to working with them in the future.
The following day, members of our Community Impact team traveled to Concord, NH, for the Regional Public Health Network Showcase. This annual event, now in its second year, highlights the state’s prevention efforts across all 13 regions. Our team gained valuable insights into statewide initiatives, networked with the Substance Misuse Prevention Coordinators and Continuum of Care Coordinators, and had the opportunity to present Greater Manchester’s achievements over the past year. Tracy and Ashley highlighted key initiatives, including the Youth Wellness and Prevention Collaborative, Project Safeguard, Red Ribbon Week, Wellness on Wheels events, and upcoming initiatives for the next year. This showcase was an excellent platform for sharing our successes and learning from the collective efforts of public health leaders across the state.
These events underscore Makin’ It Happen’s commitment to fostering community engagement, promoting mental health awareness, and contributing to statewide public health initiatives. By actively participating in and leading such initiatives, our organization continues to build strong partnerships and make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve. We look forward to further opportunities to collaborate, educate, and empower individuals and organizations in the months ahead.
