May 11th to 17th is National Prevention Week! National Prevention Week (NPW) is an annual public education campaign that showcases the work of communities and organizations across the country that are preventing substance use and misuse and promoting positive mental health.

Each year during the second week of May, dedicated individuals, communities, and organizations come together to celebrate the possibilities and brighter futures that exist thanks to prevention and promotion. National Prevention Week promotes the world we want to see—where prevention helps keep people and communities healthy and safe.

The main goals of National Prevention Week are to:

  • Involve communities in raising awareness about substance use and misuse and mental health issues.
  • Educate communities on data-driven prevention strategies and the effectiveness of evidence-based prevention programs.
  • Promote and disseminate quality resources and publications.

… And highlight the hard work of preventionists!

This year, Makin’ It Happen focused on #MyPreventionStory, to share what prevention means to us and how it has impacted our lives. Check out our Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn to learn what prevention means to us & follow along for National Prevention Week!
